To mātou kapa (Our team)

Te Anau Waitangi Charitable Trust

Building on the success of early Waitangi Day events at the Lion's Park, Te Anau Waitangi Charitable Trust formally incorporated in July 2021.

Our team is made up of five trustees who have a strong history with the Waitangi Day commemorations. An additional 4 members complete our team to support the kaupapa.

Busy with the goal of creating opportunities for our community to come together in the spirit of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, our rōpū managed to navigate the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic by adjusting the format of our kaupapa to a weeklong festival of activities.

Our mahi includes liaising with funders, community partners and Ngā Herenga Waka Kapa Haka, coordinating guest artists and workshops, attending planning meetings, and our team also coordinates with a wider group of volunteers.

Today, Te Anau Waitangi Charitable Trust creates opportunities for culturally significant days and seasons in Aotearoa, to be acknowledged in Fiordland and Māoritanga to be visible in the community. Namely Waitangi Day and the season of Matariki / Puaka.
