Community Remembrance Evening

Fiordland Community Garden

6PM, Friday 05 July 2024

You're invited...

Join us to spend time holding the memory of loved ones in your heart.

All welcome!

Matariki is a time for remembrance. It calls for people to gather together to remember and honour those we have lost. As Matariki rises in the new year, Māori honour the memories of all the people who have passed, and their spirits are released to become stars.

From 6PM - Arrive to a comforting hot soup, sausage and bread under the Matariki sky - Kai whenua Matariki - and warm up with the harvest from the Fiordland Community Garden. Please BYO mug and spoon to reduce waste.

6:30PM - There will be an opportunity to light a lantern to remember loved ones who have passed. And because this is a family friendly event for all ages, there will be marshmallow roasting for the young and young at heart (caregiver supervision required).

If you can't be there in person but would like a lantern to be lit in memory of a loved one, please contact Joy Crouchley on 021 2266 164.

We hope that the star Pōhutukawa encourages us all to reflect on the past and to be thankful for those who have contributed to our lives. No RSVP required.

Event hosted by Fiordland Community Garden Charitable Trust + Te Anau Waitangi Charitable Trust, with funding support from Te Hau Toka Southern Lakes.
